15 February 2011
Professor Mike Noon (School of Business and Management) argues HR professionals should “get over the idea that positive discrimination is wrong” and use parts of the Equality Act to favour disadvantaged groups. He says that businesses need to recognise that in some instances there is a business case for positive discrimination. He says: “Employers can use characteristics protected under the law, for example race, gender and disability, to make the decision between equal candidates - that’s positive discrimination.”
